Meet the Mayor

‘Zen JumpStart’

The Zen Center of Orange County, 120 E. 18th St., Costa Mesa, offers a five-session “Zen JumpStart” for people who want to learn about the meditation practice. Improv Jazz Concert

Dutch drummer Han Bennink, along with violinist/violist Mary Oliver, bassist Mark Dresser and trombonist Michael Dessen, will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. in Room 218 of the Music and Media Building at UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of Arts. The program is being presented by the school and its music department, whose faculty includes Dessen.

T. Jefferson Parker

‘National Theatre Live: Collaborators’

The Irvine Barclay Theatre, in association with Arts Orange County, presents “National Theatre Live: Collaborators,” a play about Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov and his being commissioned to write a play to celebrate Joseph Stalin’s 60th birthday.
