Visit Tall Ships

The tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will be at the Newport Sea Base, 1931 W. Coast Hwy. The ships will be open for walk-on tours from 4 to 5 p.m. Dec. 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 4 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 3 through Jan. 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 7-8, and from 4 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 10-11. At 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, the ships will host guests for a three-hour Battle Sail replicating naval war maneuvers from the Revolutionary War and War of 1812. Canoe Under Holiday Lights

Enjoy outrigger canoeing for all ages and skill levels around Balboa islands under the glow of holiday lights decking out the watercraft and homes competing in the 103rd annual Boat Parade. Participants go out crowd-free on a non-boat parade day. Cost is $35 per person. Corporate and private holiday party paddles are available upon request. Food Drive

The city of Irvine and Second Harvest Food Bank are holding a food drive to help the needy during the holidays. The city and Second Harvest are seeking the following types of food donations, including: canned fruit and juices, canned soups, rice, cereal, canned veggies, canned fish, chicken or meat. Nature Games at ENC

Naturalist Alex Lane will lead the “Nature Games” after school workshop for children, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the Environmental Nature Center, 1601 16th St., Newport Beach. The workshop will meet for at least four sessions during the same hours on Wednesdays in January. Enrollment will be limited to kids aged between 5 and 8. Newport Beach Public Library offers a hands-on eBook training session from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Central Library Friends Room, 1000 Avocado Ave., Newport Beach.
