Trend Watch: Taim aims to refine customers’ style

Taim in Laguna Beach, pronounced like thyme, is one of the newest boutiques to hit the city. Owner Kendra Pearce officially opened the boutique in early October at 1259 S. Coast Hwy.

The space, drenched in a rustic shabby chic decor with vintage Mademoiselle posters throughout the shop, is all about helping customers realize their personal style, Pearce said.

“The concept is we’re a styling boutique,” she said. “We’re all about helping people discover and refine their style.”

Taim carries everything from jewelry and basics to timeless knits, dresses and jackets. Lines include Patterson J. Kincaid, Mavi Jeans, It Jeans, Stacia knits and sweaters, Maison Scotch and Dolce Vita shoes. It also carries several jewelry lines and Chilanthropy candles, a Silver Lake candle maker that donates a portion of sales back to a specific charity. Price range is $20 to $250 with sizing from zero to 12.

Laughs abound at Don the Beachcomber

Don the Beachcomber in Huntington Beach is bringing laughs to patrons.

The Comedy Spot Comedy Club is now at Don the Beachcomber, 16278 Pacific Coast Hwy., offering monthly comedy shows. The Comedy Spot Comedy Club, originally started in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 2002 and has hosted top comedians who have gone on to do comedy for the likes of Jay Leno, David Letterman and appear on HBO and Comedy Central, a news release said.

The next show kicks off with a “Best of L.A.” Showcase at 8 p.m. Seating will start at 6 and tickets are $10.

AnQi does its own twist on Thanksgiving dinner

AnQi by Crustacean is offering an Asian twist on its Thanksgiving feast. The restaurant boasts gluten-free stuffing and Chef Helene An’s immunity-boosting Asian herbs and spices, according to a news release. The herbs and spices are even grown in gardens at Tiato, AnQi’s sister restaurant in Santa Monica.

Orders must be received by Nov. 19. The meal includes a citrus and herb-brined organic turkey with roasted garlic gravy, nine a la carte sides, including House of An catering’s well-known garlic noodles and a choice of home-baked pie.

Five Crowns hosting big giveaway

Five Crowns, part of the Lawry’s family of restaurants, is hosting a Facebook promotion through Dec. 27 with one winner receiving a culinary adventure with renowned Executive Chef Greg Harrison. The grand prize, worth a minimum of $1,100, includes a farmer’s market tour followed by a private chef’s supper for eight people, according to a news release.

“I am always excited to prepare a special meal for private dinner parties,” Harrison said in a statement. “I plan on making this a culinary adventure that I hope will be an experience of a lifetime for all the guests.”

Starfish now offering lunch

Starfish Laguna, which mixes cuisine from all over Asia — India, China, Korea, Vietnam and Thailand, is now serving lunch.

The lunch menu features dumplings, wonton and pho soups, a seared ahi salad with wasabi dressing, wok fired noodles, rice dishes, vegetable and meat dishes, according to a news release.

‘Lil Tokyo Reporter’ screening in Huntington Beach

The “Lil Tokyo Reporter,” a short film based on the true life of immigrant pioneer Sei Fujii, will have two screenings this weekend.

The VIP reception will take place from 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in the West Club Room, 21100 Pacific Coast Hwy., Huntington Beach. Proceeds will benefit Huntington Beach’s historic Wintersburg Preservation Fund Task Force, according to the film’s website.

Showtimes are 5 and 6 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Regency Theatres, 7822 Warner Ave. Cost is $9 and $7 for seniors or students.
