Hitting her last note here

It’s last call for Samantha Smith, who graduated as valedictorian from Orange Coast Middle College High School in late May, is heading off to college soon but would like to give all her fans a musical send-off.

With her trademark guitar and mix of upbeat and mellow folk-rock ballads, Smith will be performing at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, opening for the Canadian New Wave act Crash Test Dummies.

Tickets are going for $20 a pop for what amounts to a three-hour performance of great music in a perfect setting for parents who would like to celebrate the graduation of their teens across Orange County.

“The Coach House is a really big deal. This will be my second show there,” says Smith, who will attend Vassar College, trading the Pacific Coast for upstate New York, where she plans to study music and international philanthropy.

In April, Smith shared the stage with Al Stewart, somewhat of an English folk icon who took the time out to compliment her performance, referring to it as “the best opening act” he’d had in his 40-year career.

At tonight’s concert Smith will be bringing along Bart Broadnax, who will play the bass, and guitar virtuoso Andre Rossignol.

Smith has been very active in the broader community, performing at various nonprofit fundraisers and starting up a children’s choir.
